Check these items First
AC won’t turn on
If your AC won’t turn on there’s a couple of things you can do to troubleshoot the problem. First ensure your unit is getting power. Check the breaker at your electrical panel, the power disconnect outside your AC condenser, and the disconnect switch on your furnace. Lastly, make sure your thermostat is calling for cooling and properly connected to your thermostat wiring. If that doesn’t fix the problem, make sure any covers are properly secured on the AC condenser and furnace incase a safety switch is preventing the unit from working.
Turns on but doesn’t cool
If your AC condenser is turning on when the thermostat calls for cooling but you aren’t getting cold air at your air registers, it’s likely caused by a couple of issues.
- Reduced airflow from clogged air filter
- Blocked vents or return
- Not enough refrigerant
Try replacing your filter, removing any possible blockage from the vents on your condenser, furnace, and all registers in your home.
